Christchttrch, 17th. — Flour is firm at £18 ; wheat, 6s to 6s 6d j market quieter. Barley, 3s to 4s 3d, firm. The election for the Superintendency is exexciting interest. Mr Rolleston is likely to be elected. He will stand the contest for the office against all comers/. The requisition to him was largely signed. Mr Tancred's nomination is advocated by a small minority, and Mr Cracroft Wilson is also spoken of. The convict Swale, was hung yesterday. He made no satisfactory confession. Wellington, 17th. — At a private meeting of shareholders — New Zealand Steam Navigation Company — it was resolved to recommend to the half-yearly meeting to wind up the company. Dunebin, 18th April.— Mr L. W. Carter, town clerk of Clyde, was arrested by the police yesterday afternoon, charged with embezzling the funds of the corporation. The deficiency is about £100.
