Lord Stanley said that no despatch on that subject had been sent to Washington later than the one last published. Mr Disraeli brought in a- bill to vent bribery and corruption in elections. ! It provides for a, committee of inquiry, J consisting of eminent lawyers, to be ap- ' pointed by the Speaker of the House of ( Commons, which is to visit the place of ' election and investigate the charges of ,' bribery. , I After considerable debate the bill was read for the first time. The Houbo then adjourned The American newspapers, containing the report of the congressional proceedings on the matter of allegiance and citizenship have been received. The comments of the English press are generally favorable to tha views recently expressed in the American Congress in regard to the rights of naturalised American citizens in foreign countries. A deputation of the loyal Irishmen of this city have waited upon the Eight Hon. Gathorne Hardy, and presented him with an address expressing their devotion to the British Crown. The Home Secretary replied to the address, thanking them for the manifestation of loyalty. It is repoited that the Pope has declined to enter into negotiations , for a revision of the Austrian Concordat, and tbat Prussia has made advances for closer diplomatic relations with Borne.
