The " Argus "of the 16th «ayi :~" In the import markets to-day an unusual degree of apathy seems to hare pervaded business, and a disinclination to enter upon further engagements of any consequence has been a prevailing feature. The firmness imparted to breadstuffs by yesterday's purchases continues to be maintained, and though in anticipation of an advance holderi are ! not so ready to part with stock, there are still I sellers at £19, that figure having been realised I for a few parcels of Victorian flour. A line of I about 2,000 bushels of Tasmanian oats has been ! disposed of at 4s 9d, less discount, and a rumor ■was also current that a much larger parcel had changed hands. Maize is steady at 3s lOd to 4s for sound parcels. Sales of prepared opium are mentioned at 255. Chinese oil is quitted at 4s 3d ; the price, however, is considered most unsatisfactory. Portland cement is still quoted as 16s 6d to 17s for best brands ; but the trade are fu'ly stocked.
