The Southland Times.
MONDAY, MARCH 23,1868. An adjourned meeting of those gentlemen who are interesting themselves for the setting on foot of a series of Penny Readings for the winter evenings, was held on Friday evening, when the committee appomted at the previous meeting reported that they had met with sufficient encouragement and promises of assistance, to warrant an attempt being made. Three or four gentlemen kindly undertook to make the necessary arrangement for the first evening's entertainment, which wUI probably be given during the present week. The readings wiU be interspersed with pieces of music, vocal and instrumental. The programme may be expected to appear in our next issue.
