The "Timaru Herald" of March 7 reports :— The harvest is being gathered, but labour is rerj scarce and Tery dear. In some cases men have declined to accept less than 15s per day for reaping, or £3 per acre by piece work. Farmers are complaining about the scarcity of labour, and the loss in the delay of getting in their crops. The following report on the oat crops appears in the Taranaki " Herald" of Feb. 15 :— \ The oat crop in Taranaki this season is the Heaviest and finest ever yielded in that province. For the past eight years the settlers there have had to import otts ; this year the table is turned as they will sot only have abundance for the supply of home consumption, but be able to ship a quantity away.
