"Wednesday. Mr Hunter, salesmen at Messrs Turnbull and Co, died suddenly on the 7th inst. He was seized with paralysis after bathing. The post mortem examination disclosed a tumour in the brain. Chbistchtjech, Tuesday. Provincial Council meets to night after week's adjournment The Treasurer will make his financial statement. The revenue for nine months is estimated at £34,605, exclusive of General Government charges ahd charges on Loans. Expenditure made to balance — five hundred pounds put down for reception of the Duke at Christchurch. The Superintendent's salary has been reduced to £600. "Wednesday. Provincial Treasurer's statement last night gives satisfaction. It is rumored that there is good authority for believing that a resolution will be brought into the Council expressing a want of confidence in the Superintendent. Wellington, Wednesday. "Wharf case closed without going to jury. Kennard and Co. claimed balance of contract £7000, extras £7000, damages £20,000 nominal; after Governments case was closed Kennard &Co, proposed compromise, and eventually agreed to take £5,000 as balance of contract, no extras, no damages, no fnrther litigation, each paying own costs.
