A man has been severely stabbed in a house of bad repute, on Eriday night. Prisoner committed to-day. Wellington, Monday.— The trial of Kennard v. Superintendent not concluded — plaintiff's case closed. The Euahine, for Panama, takes fifty-five passengers. Judge Moore has decided that Commissioner M'K!ay, of the Thames Goldfield, had been informally appointed. Hunt's I claim jumped : great excitement on diggings, as licenses, &c, are invalid. Perjury case from Warden's Court ignored by Supreme Court, because of doubt whether properly constituted. Auckland, March 2nd. — " Herald" says intelligence from Opotiki alarming. Major St. John, with only two hundred men, surrounded on every side by Hau- ' haus. His force are out day and night, to prevent them making sudden attack upon the township. Officers and men are alarmed, and are expecting to receive assistance. March 3rd. — Major St. John has received reinforcements : more on the way. By next arrivals we expect to hear of an engagement. Eorces at disposal of officers considered insufficient to warrant their assuming the offensive. Young men of Waikato Militia stationed at blockhouses been replaced and sent to join Major St. John who has not four hundred men altogether. Col. Haultain is at Eotorua, and intends proceeding to scene of operations. There appears to be a general rising of the natives about Waimanu. The "Volunteers, Eifle Eangers, and Militia have been called out to patrol at night. • Dttnedin. — Movement on foot to prevail on Mrs Heir to (appear at a complimentary performance from the artistes at the Theatre. Cargill has sold the Albion to C. Hoyt and Capt. M'Kinnon for £12,400. She proceeds to Japan, via Hokitika- and Queensland. M'Kinnon sold coal interest, hulks, &c., to Captain Hutchison.
