The ship Hydra, Captain Rich, vailed from the Sandriilge Pier on the 23rd nit , and anchored at Port Phillip Heads in consequence of a strong head wind. On the 24th, the wind suddenly shifted to the N.E., and blew strong. Owing to the now altered position of the vessel, she was placed in considerable danger of going ashore ; and, to avoid such a disagreeable alternative, she was obliged to slip an anchor and chain. Experienced on the passage light northerly winds, with fine weather. Passed the Solander at 4 p.m. on the Ist inst, and arrived here at 4 p.m. on the 2nd inst. This vessel has established a high reputation for herself as a stock transport between Victoria and the Southern ports of New Zealand. Her three preceding trips were most successfully accomplished, and the present one has been even more favorably concluded than the others, tne whole of the shipment, comprising 238 valuable cattle and twelve horses, having been safely landed. Mr Elliott, the importer of this cargo, must be congratulated on the successful issue, so far, of hiß present venture. We understrnd the cattle are a very superior lot, principally fine bred shorthorns, selected with a special view to the establishment of a high class herd in Southland, from the pastures of the first breeders of stock in the colonies.
