THE RACES.
The race meeting, which takes place tomorrow and Friday, bids fair to be the most successful which has yet come off in Southland. As will be seen from the subjoined list, in addition to a few wellknown names and old favorites, there are a number ot new local horses, and several strangers from a distance. In each event there is a very good field : and from what is known of the competitors, some very good running may be expected to ensue. The Stewards met at Colyer's Princess Hotel last evening, for the purpose of receiving entries, when the : following horses were placed : — FIRST DAT— THURSDAY. MAIDEN PLATE. Mr T. The other events, viz., the Cigar race, the Consolation Stakes, and the Hurry Scurry being simply post entries, it is of course not known what horses may run, but large fields will, no doubt, be forthcoming. It is to be hoped that the weather may prove propitious, and that the meeting may pas's off without accident or hitch of any kind.
