She •was successfully got off, and taken to this port for srtme slight repairs which have been completed, and she now appears none the worse of the accident, ns she seems to be quite as staunch as ever. Air Mo?s intends to place her in the trade between Jliverton, Stewart's Island, and . thi* port. The P.N.Z. and A/R.M. Co 'ss.s. Otago arrived from Melbourne, via Hokitika and Northern Ports, at noon, yesterday. She left Melbourne at 4 p.m. on the 6th instant, and cleared Port Phillip Head 3at 7 n.m. The South Australian Chronicle, of 21st December, has the following extraordinary particulars respecting the steamer Pareora, from Gtaegow to New Zealan 1, furnished by Captain Castle :■ — The steamer Psxreora was Inden with general merchandise, and a quantity of Coal supposed to suffice for steaming through the calm ! belts was placed on board, but it was under sail principally she was expected to make the voyage from Glasgow to Dunedin. She was in charge of Captain Gmhame, who sailed on 29th October, 18<?6, but on getting to sea found a twin screw steamer anything but fast when under sail, j After beating about the Atlantic until th^following April, he put into Surinam .with provisions and coal expended, and the vessel's bottom Ike a thrummed m it from'thc marine accumulations on it. She lay there long enough to communicate with Britain ; and two engineers being sent oat, j after four months' respite, she again essayed the pathless track on July 21, 1817, and on Sep. 23, in 3 degrees 9 minutes N., 13 degrees 12 minutes 3^ 2?., she was spoken by the Hampshire. It appeared that for the previous throe days no cooked food had been made use of, for the very simple reason that there was no fuel left with which to liilht » fire, everything combustible having been ; expended, even to the fragments <> r 'he cases in which cargo was stowed. Her bcMo.n was as foul as ever; and being of light draughi, the twin screws wei'e a' terrible drag to her sail, thou'h of course they could not be unshipped. Some idea of her course was obtained from tho second officer sent in charge of the boat, who stated that she had crossed and re-crossed the line nine times, and was at. one time as far south as 5 de<j. The intention was to attempt, if possible, to makelPemambuco the next porfc of call.
