COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
■* Times Office, Thursday Evening. Since our last summary we have no large * transactions to note, but on the whole business continues in a sound condition. Owing to the heavy arrivals lately of tea and sugar direct from China and the Mauritius at Port Cholmers/ these staples rale rather low in this market. Money i 3 easier, and can be readily obtained on good securities. Auction sales during the month have not been of any great importance — in some cases to close consignments. In the flour market a very perceptible and marked change has occurred. Adelaide flour has risen rapidly from £15 to £25, at which figure it is firmly held. The same rub applies to Provincial, which is quoted at £^v. The sudden rise may be attributed to the rusfc ha. ing destroyed a large portion of this year's cro-> at Adelaide, and also to the lact that on the news reaching here considerable speculation resulted in the whole available stock being placed in the hands of a few. In breadstuff's generally an upward ; pendency is observable.

The hors* and cattle market has been well supplied. Mr ! Lawson'a importation, ex Omeo, from Melbourne, sold on Saturday last, realised as follows : — Medium hacks, £14 to £20 ; light harness and good hacks, £20 to £27 ; medium draught, £35 to £44; milch cows in calf, £16 to £17 10s; bull, £25. The team of working bullocks did not find a purchaser at the sale ; but was sold privately in the afternoon at barely a paying price.. I have to report, ex Tararua, which arrived from Melbourne this morning, a consignment of forty head of cattle and seven horses— Mr Gidney's selection. Landed Properties are very dull of sale. Prodace is in better demand at advanced rates. General Merchandize — Owing to tho holidays but few sales are taking place. The clearing out sale of Messrs W. B. Scandrett and Co. will take place this day at twelve o'clock.
