OCTOBER THE 29th TO NOVEMBER THE 15th. G-arabaldi is a prisoner at Spezzia. Mazzina cries for war on the barricades. Victor Emmanuel has denounced G-ari baldi's movement. Napoleon hius demanded the evacuation of the Papal territory by the Italian troops. The Italian Government declines a plebiscite in the Papal States, but favors their ultimate incorporation with Italy. Menabrea has formed a Government, Cialdini having failed to do so. The defeat of the Garabaldians took place on the 3rd November. A violent storm has taken place at St. Thomas. The town is in ruins. Eive mail steamers and fifty sailing vessels were wrecked. The cyclone of Calcutta caused great loss on shore. Several vessels were dismasted, and the steamer Orissa was wrecked. The transport Bosphorus was wrecked in Algo Bay ; forty-five lives were lost. The first portion of the Abyssinian expedition hda landed at Zula, twenty miles from Mussowah. Mr Disraeli was warmly received in Edinburgh. Two policemen have beenshot in Dublin. A reward of £1000 has been offered for the discovery of the murderers. The democrats have carried the Ohio, New York, and New Jersey elections ; while the Republicans have been successful in Massachusetts, Virginia, and G-eorgia.
