Tuesday. Fitzherbert's dinner on Friday was a . complete failure ; not quite forty present, and only four or five of the leading members. Ktzherbert made a bitter speech, complaining of being treated like a dog, declaring himself ashamed of the community. He sailed on Sunday in the Eakaia as agent under the Act. He has resigned the Treasurership, and will probably be absent twelve months. It is rumored currently that Auckland dividends will be paid by the Colonial Treasurer. Grove, of Tuapeka, been prospecting near Terawati during the last three' weeks, with three others, partly at Government cost. He reports a field stijficient to give six shillings a day for a few hundred men. He starts again directly for a month. The gold is found in "the creeks. No quartz. • The neighborhood has been so often prospected previously, that the public are sceptical ,as to there being a payable goldfield. Dr Hector has just returned from his I geological trip.
