PORT OF WELLINGTON.
8 AILED. Oct 4, 4.30 p.m. — Storm Bird, s.b , for Wanganui. Oct 4, 9 p.m. — Wanganui, b.s., for Wanganui.
The steamer Airedale, which, left Bluff Harbor for HoMtika on the 31st ult, after encountering heavy westerly gales, was obliged to take shelter at Preservation Inlet, where she remained upwards of 40 hours. The weather somewhat abating, she again put to sea, but the heavy swell and continued gale caused some accident to the machinery which compelled her to put back to the Bluff, where she arrived at 3.30. on the 4th inst. After some slight temporary repairs, she sailed at 8 a.m. for Wellington via East Coast. The Bengal hauled out into the stream at 8 o'clock on the morning of the sth and will proceed to sea on her voyag to Newcastle the first fair wind.
