Wright, Eobbetson and Ca.'s Report : —
We have very little change to report in the market for stock during the past month. Store cattle and store wethers are in demand. Next month we anticipate a brisk demand for all classes of sheep, for delivery after shearing ; and from what we can at present ascertain, if the money mai'ket is not too tigdt, we do not anticipate prices wi'l be much lowe.. 1 during the ensuing season, with perhaps the exception of breeding ewes, which we think will rule considerably lower than they did last season.
Fat Ciittle. — The market has been very barely supplied, and prices continue firm, with every probability of a rise. We quo.te prime beef, 50s per lOOlbs ; middling, do, 45a to 47s 6d.
Fat calves are in good demand, and sell readily at from L 3 10s to L 4 each.
Store Cattle. — The demand contiues for good mixed cattle. We have sold 180 head in Canterbury, mixed, from nine months and upwards, at L 7 10s _per head ; also, 75 head at L 8 15s. We quote steers, two years and upwards^LlO to Lll ; good mixed mobs from L8 s to L 9. Fat Sheep. — The market is completely bare of good quality muttou, and any now coming forward would meet with ready sale at extreme rates. We have sold, for delivery in town, 1500, at 19s each ; 1003 on station, good weights, at. 20s ; and 1000 on the ran, at 3|:l p cr ° ib — the latter lot about 180 miles from market. We quote first quality sheep at from 4f d to 5d per lb. ■ . Store Sheep. — Very few transactions have taken place. We have sold 3000 store wethers, in wool, at 14s ; also 400 2 and 4- tooth, at 12? 3d. We quote 4 to 6-tooth wethers, in the wool, 14s to 15s, according to locality, after shearing. We can sell at 93 on the run. Horses. —In consequence of the numerous arrivals lately, the demand has decrease 1 , and prices aye lower. Our sales comprise, ex Orneo, 20 head, Mr Gidney's, at from L 24 to L6fc each. Mr Tracey's 8 saddle hacks averaged Ll9 ; Messrs T." and Ct. Bookless' a 10 head at from L3O to L 52 ; Mr Wallace's 11 head at from L 23 to Lsl ; Mr Strachan's 7 mares at L6O ; Mr D. Nesbitt's 12 head averaged L6O ; Mr Johl Stevens's 22 head at from L3O to L 74. Mr M'Leish's 10 head, chiefly light, averaged L 23 each. Mr H. Wilson's 8 head— been at contract work- sold at from L 23 to L 65 each. Mr Sparrow's, ex Tarsn iki, from Auckland, sol 1 at from L 22 to L 45 10s each; and Mr Brown's, ex Tararua, from Wellington, medium draft s^ock, at from L 23 to L 34. The Clydesdale entire, Sir Colin, was purchased by Mr James Smith, of Tokomaii-iro, for L 222 10s ; and Young Bobert Burns, a "Clydesdale entire, was sold for' LI 00, to Messrs Douglas, Alderson, and Co. Country Sales. — At Tokomairiro, on the 2nd inst., we sold 80 head mixed cattle at L 8 10s each ; milch cows, at fi-onvLU to Ll6 ; yearlings, at L 6 10s ; 20 head colts and fillies, from Mr James Smith's station, at from Lll to L 35. At Waikouaiti, on the 9th inst., we sold,- ton account of Mr Fleming, 24 head dairy cows, at an.average of Ll3 10s ; 10 two-year old heifers, at Lll ; and £0 two-year old steers at LlO ss. Also, at Mr Q-. Shand, jun., Farm, East Taieri, 15 milch, cows at from Ll2 to LlB ; two-year old steers at LlO 15s; yearlings at 'L 6 12s 6d ; draught mares from L50.t0 L 6 4; and two-year old cart colt for L3i. consignment, ex Omeo. 22 cows and heifers re-alised-from L 25 to L 56 10s each— they landed in very poor condition. Messrs Douglas, Alderson and Co. were the principal buyers. Station Property. — We hear of no sales of station property, and do not expect |any transfers until after shearing, .when we anticipate a good many runs will change hands.;/ There are tnany eager buyers from Australia, 'who are prepared to give good prices for eligible properties. Wool Report. — In the absence of the Augus t mail, noV yet to hand, we have no news of this market to report. -
