A MEMORY.
By Samuel Seldeit. ; That sad, sweet face, I see it ye», ' Those eyes so brightly blue, As April's first soft violet, W. .ose fragrant petals still are wefc ' With drops of sparkling dew. Recalling of those eyes serene, That face and golden ah*, Sweet pictures of the Magdalene, O'er old cathedral altars seen, , Wooing our thoughts to prayer. I see her still in reverie, Though months and years have rolled, On bended knee, with tearful eye, With missal and with rosarie, And crucifix of gold. , 7 The waxen candles, tall and bright, Through clouds of incense gleamed, And o'er the sculptures cold and white, And tesselated floor, the light Through gorgeous windows streamed. And whilst the music swells and dies, The organ's thunders roll, ._ . . ....... She kneels with sad,. imploring eyes, Like a pure seraph from the skies, Pleading for some lo^t soul!
