COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
Times Ofpice, Tuesday Evening. MrTODD, auctioneer, reports. — Business during the month has been unusually dull, -which may be partly accounted for by the settlers being all fully occupied with the important operations of Beed-timei and therefore having but little time to transact any business in town. We may fairly anticipate a little more activity in the course of the current month, as, owing to the extraordinary fineness of the season, crops should now be well in. *■■■ For stock generally the demand has not been quite equal to previous month, although first-class animals still bring a high figure. Horses. The market has been we 11 supplied, principally by shipments from the other colonies. Good heavy draught animals can st' 1 ! be quitted at fare prices. The lot ex Omeo from Melbourne (Mr Gidncy's), I sold on Saturday last, at prices ranging from £30 to £60, viz., £i sto £60, for first-class draught ; and £30 ( to £45, for ordinary draught and good hacks Amongst this lot was the Clydesdale Entire " Young Eeformer," which was sold for £85. I also sold on the same day a few Tery superior animals, ex same vessel, imported by Mr Burrows, which brought the highest prices above quoted. In this lot there ■was also a thoroughbred Clydesdale sire — " Young Clyde" — bred in Tasmania, and said by competent judges to be the best horse of his class yet imported into the colony. He was bought at £210. In Cattle there has been very liftle doing. Fat Bullocks, and Cows in fv 1 ! milk mantain the?r priee_and,have even an upward tendency, other descriptions remain quiet. The produce market remains inactive. There has been no demand either for export or home consumption neither has there been on the part of farmers, any disposition to force sales. General Merchandise. — Market apparently fully stocked and goods difficult to place at even low rates. Purchasers for town properties in eligible situations can easily be met with but inferior sites are a perfect drug. Furniture sells well. I have seld several large lots and had no difficulty in obtaining fair prices. The following are the Customs Eeturns for — ■ Monday, Sept. 30. Whisky, 27 galls ... £16 4 0 Tuesday, Oct. 1. Whisky, 33 galls ,„ £21 0 0 Tobacco, 408 lba , 51 0 0 3ta, 840 ft* „, , 21 0 0 m o "5
