Sir, — Much odium has been sought to be cast on Mr Longuet for his conduct in the election of the Superintendent by correspondents in that immaculate paper the " Southland News." Amongst the rest Mr Waddel appears to be virtuously indignant. "What do Mr Waddel's assertions amount to? That Mr John Mitchell and himself agreed with Mr Longuet to deceive the Electors of Campbelltown, by a sham opposition. Mr Longuet denies being a party to the | transaction. Even if he were, and was to be blamed, in how much worse, a position do Messrs Waddel and John Mitchell stand ; the latter the ardent advocate of " truth and righteousness, brotherly love, &c, . ■ ; The erudite editor of the aforementioned paper has even condescended to fulminate his thunderbolts on Mr Taylor's devoted head. ♦ Whatever Mr Longuet's conduct may have been in this matter, no one can say that he has swindled his creditors, and stalks the streets a dishonorable bankrupt, which is more than can be said, of some of his detractor?!,— Yours &c, Justice,
