DUNJHiDIN. Sept 4th, 5 p.m. Wellington telegrams of yesterday says : — Accounts from the goldfield at the Thames, Auckland, are not encourageing. Plenty of the specimens have little or no gold in them. Indignation meetings have been held at the Earaka diggings relative to the exaggerated report published. A memorial is in circulation for signature, praying that Capt. Machin may have his certificate restored. On 30th ult, Cox gave notice to introduce a bill to create Local Boards at the request of 20 claimants — ten members to form a Board. Thirty thousand pounds debentures to be paid at once, as well as 25 per cent Territorial Eevenue. All lands taken for public works deemed to be sold under the Bill and payments to be made accordingly. Debate on Financial Statement commenced on 29th. Yogel moved that no more money be borrowed. Not expected to be carried. On 3rd inst., Jollie, Oargill, Heaphy, Graham, and B. Graham spoke in favor of the financial policy generally ; disapproved of some parts of it. Moorhouse, .Reynolds, and Adams spoke against it. A. J. Eichmond also spoke, urging Yogel to withdraw the amendment; Carleton resumes debate to-night. Divorce Bill passed second reading in Upper House, with overwhelming majority. Also " Judicial Officers Goldfields Salaries Bill." The select committee on George Green's petition recommend a grant of 1400 acres. In the Supreme Court the trial of Maria Baker, and Mrs Lockyer, for child murder, has resulted in an acquital. The trial of a Chinamen for a murderous assault upon a man named Harboard, at Tuapeka, is progressing. September 5, 11 a.m. Wellington, yesterday — -Legislative Council passed " the previous question " on Privilege Bill, which sought to confine money matters to House of Eepresentatives, hoping to make terms with House of Eepresentative for passing " Council Limitation Bill." Debate on supplies continued, and further adjourned till this evening. Vogel's amendment withdrawn in favor of Steven's amendment proposing repeal of "Loan Allocation A.ct." The speeches showed the ministerial policy to be opproved of as a whole.
