Sic,— The "Southland News," in ' its attempted strictures on your article having reference to the return of Mr W. H. Pearson as member for' Oterarnika, has endeavored to mislead the public by the view it has taken of the discussion in the Greneral Assembly, relative to the exclusion of G-overnment officials from seats in Legislative bodiesWhatever may have been the opinion of the members as to the abstract principle, the fact that the Bill disallowing such elections was thrown out, is sufficient proof that the argument of expediency in the present political condition of the colony, carried the day. The good taste of tie latter part of the . article in the " Niws" will doubtless be appreciated. Tour's Common" Sense. Invercargill, Slsfc August, 1867.
