These are two members for the district of Eoslyn, and three candidates offered themselves for election. The result of the poll was as follows:— -Johnstone, 26; Swale, 25; Kinboss, 25. The latter is a strong anti-Railway man. Nothing is definitely known as to the way the Returning officer may decide ; but his casting vote will determine whether Mr. Kinross or Mr. Swvle will be the sitting member. It is probable that those elected will be favorable to Railways. This is another victory gained by the friends of progress. The contest for "Waihopai is the next on the list. Messrs. Clebke, Dalbymple, arid Hay are the opposition candidates. Messrs. Blacklock and Mabten are the Railway candidates. We trust that the electors will return the two latter gentlemen by a large majority. The time has arrived when each elector is called upon , to giva decided expression in favor of Railways, and this can only be made manifest by the return of Messrs. Blacklock and Marten. Mr. John Mitchell is a candidate for the district of Oteramika. The same objections that we urged against his election for the Bluff applies with even still greater force to this district. Mr. Mitchell would be the very worst member possible to be returned for so large and important a community as the Oteramika. He would be a great enemy to the interests of the electors if returned. He simply uses the Railway extension question to further ulterior political designs. He is altogether insincere on this subject. He ought not to be returned.
