C»nterbnry.— The "Lyttelton Times" 10th August reports; — Another week of extreme depression in all branches of trade has just passed and there has been Jcomparativley nothing doing. The uneasy feeling with regard to credit still continues, and the few transactions that take place sre upon the most limited pcale. The unusually bad weather experienced lately has contributed to Lighten the depression, and especially as the accounts from the country of the losses sustained by the squatters in sheep and cattle are reported as very heavy. Discounts and exchanges remain as before "Wilson & Alport reports the sale at SearelTs MM, Papanui road, and prices as follows : — 90 bags wheat, 3s per bushel ; 100 do, 3s 4d do : 130 do, 3s 8d do ; 150 do wheat meal, 2s 2d do ; 20 do, 2s 8d do ; 200 do, 3s 3d do ; 100 do, 3s 8d ; 196 bags sharps, 3s lOd to 4s 6d per 100 lbs ; 972 bushels bran, 7£d to B £d per bushel ; pig stuff, 2s 8d do ; flour, best, £8 103 to £8 15s ; 1 horse, £15 ss ; 1 spring dray, £20 10s ; 10 pigs, good porkers, 19s each. The " Wellington Independent," Bth August, eayß : — We regret again to state that business continues very quiet, operations being conducted on the smallest scale, and merely for immediate trade requirements. ' The Otter has arrived from London, which will only add to our already over-stocked market. Continued boisterous weather and the bad s^ate of the roads operate greatly towards the dullness of the times. We also notice an entire absence of enqniry for colonial produce this winter. Butter is not much wanted, bacon is unsaleable, and we have had no shipments of live stock to the West Coast as in forrf' "inters.
