Dunedin.— Ti. ' Daily Times," lOfch August, reports : — Nothing vi the private transactions of the the past day or two, either in the import market or outside, has possessed any interest. The little improvement in country trade noticed a few days since has not been maintained, in consequence of the impracticability of despatching goods to many parts, while both for town requirements and coastwise but small parcels have been making. A good attendance mustered at Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn and Co.'s rooms, this afternoor, attracted by the sale of sugars, ex Jessie Kelly. The competition for the sound portion of the cargo was fair, and only one or two small lots failed in reaching the reserve, medium class sugars bringing proportionately better prices than either high or low qualities; the finest white sample realised £42 5s to £41 ; second whites bought in at £40 ; best yellow and grey crystals fetched £37 to £36 ; darker ditto, £35; fair counters, £33 to £32 10s; browns, £30. The rates obtained for the sweatad and damaged portions of the cargo, sold on account of the concerned, were unusually good. Chbistchtjbch. — The "Lyttelton Times" of the sth reports : — " The prospect of exporting wheat is exciting some speculation in the grain market, and has induced an advance of 3d per bushel for deferred deliveries of this cereal. The prices of other grain remain stationary. Our quotations of to-day are : — Wheat, 3s 3d per bushel : oats, 2s 6d do ; flour is firm at from £11 to £12 per ton ; bran, £4 15s ; and sharps, £5 15s ; good hay, at from £4 10s to £5 per top."
