The election at Campbelltown has resulted in the return of another member favorable to the Eailway scheme. Mr Mitchell, at the eleventh hour evidently believed in the time-honored adage that " discretion is the better part of valor," and retired in favor of Mr Longtjet, the local candidate. Mr Mitchell ■would not have had the slightest chance had a contest taken place. The electors were determined to support Mr Lon"gttet. It is to be hoped Mr Mitchell will gain experience from the past, and tbat his future political conduct will be of that straightforward and open character which will entitle him to the respect and corfidence of the electors should be again seek their suffrages. The nomination for Biverton took place on Tuesday, the 6th inst. Pour candidates were proposed, viz. : — Dr HoDGKUfsois", Messrs M'Gtilliyery, Daniels, and Basstian. The show of hands was decided to be in favor of Messrs Basstian and Daniels. Dr Hodgkinson and Mr M'Gtilliteet are favorable to the proposed railway extension, Messrs Daniels and Basstian are opposed to it. All the electors who reside in town, aDd who possess votes in the Kivei'ton 'district, should exercise the franchise in favor of the popular candidates. The poll takes place this day (Friday, 9th inst.) The nomination for Longwood took place on "Wednesday, the 7th inst. The candidates were Mr Cuthbeutson and Dr Monckton. The poll will be taken on Saturday next. Mr Cfthbertson's opinions are well known. His return to the Council at the present time is most undesirable. Dr Monckton is a strong advocate for the carrying out of the Eailway project, and therefore isentitled to the support of the promoters of progress.
