Extracting mxveb, feom Ose. — The value of argentiferous lead ore is invariably much less than the value of its constituents would lead one to expect, owing to the difficulty and cost of extracting silver from the ore. It is stated that a Mons. Cordure has introduced a simple and economical process likely to give increased value to all such ores. When the argentiferous metal is melted a small quantity of zinc is added, and after an energetic brushing the mixture is allowed to repose. The alloy of zinc and silver behlg lighter than lead rises to the surface, and as it is less fnsible it cools sooner.
