ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

WE DO XOT IDENTIFY OTJBSELTKS IK ANT WAT WITH THE OPINIONS EXPRESSED BY OXJH COEBESPONDENTS. ♦ THE MEETINO. (to the editob of the southland times.) Sir, — I am glad to see that Mr Blacklock has acquitted himself to the satisfaction of every right-thinking man — • that the abuse that has been heaped upon him — the insinuations that have been made by such men as Mr Hare — have been refuted, and, instead, that filth has been heaped upon the heads of those who sought, in an underhand way, to maliciously damage, for political purposes, Mr Blackloek's reputation, The part that Mr Mitchell took, in endeavouring to get up a disturbance, was most discreditable, but it will be necessaiy to state, in order to account for his conduct, that the sale of the steamer " Southland" was entrusted to that gentlemen, who, failing to obtain a purchaser within a reasonable time, the sale was taken out of his hands. He then made a claim for compensation — commission (as Mr M. called it) — which of course he did not get, and ever since he has a personal spite against Mr Blacklock ; hence his desire to provoke disturbance at the meeting. It speaks very little for the conduct of any man to behave in the manner Mr Mitchell did — especially one who lays claim to the character of "truth and | righteuosness," " love and justice," and " brotherly affection," which expressions continually fall with unctuous grace from his lips. — Yours &c, Fair Plat.
