Sales of Patna rice are mentioned at £27, 10s thus confirming the advance sought to be established. At auction, some. 2,400 bags of Java rice found purchasers at £23 10s for the greater portion. For a small lot at the close of the sale of a superior description, as much as £27 5s was=- obtained. Candles are in better demand. A shipment of 1000 boxes of Brandon's was cleared off privately at lOd in bond, while smaller parcels have been quitted, duty paid, at llid, as likewise De Roubaix at the same figure. By public sale faulty full-weight candles realised 10£ dto 10§d. Currants are not in much, request. Sales, however, have been made at 4d to 4£d. In sugars business has come ■under our^ notice. at £35 for Mauritius yellow crystals, while 'the -balance of the Eugenie's Java sugars — 3,473 mats — realised by public sale £33 10s for grey crystals, £23 10s to. £26 for brown, and £18 5s to £18 17s 6d for low rations. Sales of dried appleß have been made at 7£d in bond. An.invoice of colored shop twine was placed at 33Jd to 14d. In tobaccoes about 100 packages were disposed of publicly ; dark aromatic pounds, faultyTTJrought Is 5d to Is ll^d ; twists, with all faults, were sold at 5d ; half-pounds were quitted at Is 3Jd; and tens, in faulty condition, brought B£d to lid. In liquids we hear of a fair parcel of Martell's. dark brandy, in hhds and quarters, having met with a buyer at 6s 6d.
