Government resisted successfully as no supplies could be granted till address was passed. i To-day in-reply to Borlase, Fitzherbert stated it was intention of government to continue the- Stamp Duties. Any-surplus v over and above estimates will be nil. Reeves asked- why present session^ was not held in Christchurch according; to vote of House. Stafford said motion was carried only by a majority of one ; independent of wnich inconvenience andrisk would be encountered, not to speak of expense. Under these circumstances Groyernment advised His Excellency not /to hold present session at. Christchurch. Yogel gave notice to move' on Tuesday next that G-oldfields Otago be vested in -Superintendent. :v-\ ; WELLEfGipw, July 12, 1.45 p.m. The debate on the address was resumed and carried without a division. Opposition feeble/ not organised. Parliamentary not worth sending. Fight will be on Macandrew's question next Tuesday. ' The Sturt has arrived from Tauranga. Two more men murdered — Bennet White, storekeeper, and a Maori mailman; the former tomahawked.
