ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

« WE DO NOT IDENTIFY OUESELVES IN ANY WAY WITH THE OPINIONS EXPBESSED BY OTTB COEEESPONDENTS. ♦ (TO THE EDITOE OF THE SOUTHLAND TIMES.) Sib, — It is very strange that a system of injustice should be allowed to be carried on in Southland. This, as regards matters between "man and man, is not right. It is not fair for a person to pay dearly for what he does not get ; and I am astonished that the people of Invercargill should allow themselves to be hoodwinked. '•• I refer, particularly to wood carters."" The facts that I am about to dwell upon may be an eyesore to them, but it cannot be helped, for I have a right to publicly expose their past and present dealings. If I went into a shop and asked for a 41b loaf, have I not a right to expect it ? The same with everything else. But if we ask a wood carter to bring a cord of wood, when measured, it falls a good deal short. The wood-cutters who cut for carters have to give full measurement by the tape — 8 feet long, 4 high, 4 wide. Let any one judge for himself, and try a cord brought into town, and he will find that lam right. Of about every five cords the carter makes six, and, with all that, demands a pretty high price. False weights and measures are, we are told, an abomination. Under this light we look upon the matter, and hope some steps will be taken to rectify it for the benefit of the honest but poor in Invercargill. — I am, &c, Obseeyee. "Waikivi Bush, June 9th, 1867.
