By the arrival of the Tararua at the Bluff on the 2nd inst., we are in receipt of one day's later news from Melbourne. The following commercial intelligence is taken from the Argus of the S7th ult. :— "In the import markets to-day business has been moderately active. In breadstuffs we note an inquiry for best Adelaide town brands of flour for export, and amongst other sales we hear of a parcel of thirty tons of Hart's having changed hands at £13.' Wheat continues in request by English shippera, and we learn of a parcel of 6,000 bushels of Port McDonnell, to come in, having been placed in one line, at a price withheld. Oats are the turn easier. A fair sample of Tasmanian feeding oats has been quitted at 3s. Maize is disposed of at 3s 7d. A parcel of about twenty bales of Dundee cornsacks has been placed at 12s 9d ; the market, however, is very heavy, and attracts little notice. Sugars meets with buyers for trade purposes at £37 and £38 for grey crystals. By our Sydney telegrams we observe that the reported wreck of the Hermann Doctor is contradicted. Purchases of kerosene oil still continue to be made, though the market generally is far from active. A line of some 2.800 eases of Cozzens's has been sold to land on private terms. There is a good deal of inquiry for both Kyland's and Eedfern's drawn fencing wire, Mos. 6, 7, and 8 being most wanted ; business, however, is for the moment checked by a barely supplied market. Trade parcels of De Boubaix's candles have realised Is on the spot ; owing to arrivals being rather heavy during the lapt day or two, however, purchasers are not bo e»?er, and offers under llfd for the entire shipments of Brandon's have been turned away. Teas are not characterised by much animation ; Bales of good medium are reported at Is 9d to Is lOd ; a parcel of neariy 200 chests realised quotations. In tobaccos we note the sale by auction of some twenty-one half-tierces of twist, in faulty condition, at 8d to Is Id ; the balance of the Bhipment of Sun twist in importers' hands has also been cleared off on private terms. Sales of fine samples of 1866 hops are mentioned at 2s 4d. There has been little doing in spirits, but we understand that there are orders in the city for dark brandy on Sydney account. Blood's etont continues to be disposed of at quotations. Exohange on England is very firm at one per osat. premium, and. thus there ia no alteration oft l^fcpioatih'erate,
