THE RAILWAY QUESTION.

TO THE EDITOB OF THE SOUTHLAND TIMES. Sic, — I saw, with pleasure, a sugestion in the columns of your contemporary, that a public meeting should be held to give expression to the contempt that the members of the Provincial Council are held in by. the people of Southland. Let an unbiassed opinion be given in favor of the General Government setting apart the land necessary for the construction bf the railway without the consent of the Council. Because the squatters have gained their point through the cowardice, or worse, of certain members of the Council, who have proved traitors to the trust reposed in them, it is no reason why the whole community should suffer. Let ihis he home in mmd — that unless we set the land apart now in definite terms, we shall never have another opportunity. The squatters are spreading the report that we can have it .at any time. This is simply to delay until the General Assembly meets, when Mr ABAolmes and others are able to oppose tlie whole scheme. ABAc is afraid that his station will suffer. . So is Mr Cuthbertson. Citizen.
