May 29, 3.20 p.m. Wellington, Tuesday.— The Select Coirimittee have reported to the Provincial Council bn the ratification of the slip contract in favbr of the Government. They recommend the ratification or nonratificaftiqn to be left in the hands of the Superintendent and. Executive. Two natives have been brought before the Wanganui Police Court charged with the murder of Mr Hewitt two years ago. They have been remanded for eight days for the magistrate to ascertain the views of the Government. The new military settlers occupying land in the Patea district have given three days notification to the natives; to clear out. The coarse southerly weather past week, continues preventing departures and shipping business. mmmmmmmmmmm 1
