Messrs Dalgetty, Dv Cross & Co. report, under date March Ist, as follows: — The first series of public wool sales opened last evening with a good attendance of buyers and fair competition. : The quantity declared was 83,259 bales Australian, and 32,967 South. African. In regard to the former, the catalogue contained a very small proportion of fleece wool — which realised nearly the average of last sale prices. We intend to communicate later intelligence to our friends at Melbourne and Geelong,.to overtake the mail of 26th ult, and- give a more reliable . opinion on the. state of the market than, could be formed .on the result of the first day's sale.
