The following telegram from "Wellington was received in Dunedin on Monday :— ■ In consequence of unfavorable report [made by] Dr Knight after his return [relative to his] recent investigation into Otago accounts the Greneral Government apparently advised the Governor not to delegate to Mr Macandrew the powers usually conferred on Superintendents. Solicitor J. B. Bradshaw is Gazetted agent of the General Government for the Otago Goldfields. Port Cathedral caught fire last night during unusually crowded service. Panic for a few minutes. Many ladies fainted, others rushed out. Eire being extinguished, service was resumed. Colonial Hauttain returned very ill. Conveyed tp his lodgings in litter. No further news East Coast. Williamson elected Superintendent [Auckland.] No poll
