John Reid, alias Maori Jack, and William Montresser, escaped, from the new gaol, Hokitika. Reid, alias Maori Jack, isa native of America, 27 years old, a sailor, sft. 3£ inches high, medium build, sallow complexion, very dark, black hair, - dark hazel eyes, slight scar on right eye, and on left cheek near mouth ; right arm disfigured and bent from fracture of the elbow, sentenced to two years' imprisonment at last session of Supreme Court for garotting.
