ABBIVED April 6, 9 a.m.— Wellington, s.s., from Tsranaki. saukd. A r »n X, Q *.m. — Airedale, s.s., for Picton.
The barque Bengal arrived from Newcastle, N.S.W., early on Friday morning. Sailed from Newcastle on Wednesday, the 13th March, and aneotmtered south-east gales for the first twelve days, since then, until making the coast, experienced light easterly weather. Sighted the Solander at 8 a.m. on 3rd inst. ; arrived off the port on Friday morning, and anchored in •ast channel for the ebb tide, but a south-west breeze springing up beat round Dog Island, and anchored off the Pilot Station in the evening. Was ■ailed up alongside the wharf this morning in gallant Btyle against a north-west wind by Capt. Thomson, the Harbor Master, and commenced discharging during the afternoon. The present v the third trip of the Bengal to this port with stock this season, and she has been particularly iucceagful, having had considerably under the average of losses. She is evidently one of j the most suitable vessels for the trade we have had here during several seasons. The care displayed in the arrangements of the vessel for the convenience of the live cargoes reflects every credit on Captain Jamieson* and the owners. Her cargo this voyage consists of superior young breeding cattle, selected from the best herds in New South Wales. There are also on board a number of Chinese quail, which look remarkably welL Capt. Jamieson reports the James Paxton sailing from Newcastle for Invercargill with coals, but sprung leak outside and put back to Sydney. The barque Candle sailed at the same time as the Bengal with cattle for the Kaikouras, N.Z.
