HORTICULTURAL AND FLORICULTURAL SOCIETY'S SHOW.

The annual show of the above Society was held yesterday in the Theatre Royal. A lovely autumn day gave the fullest opportunity to all to witness the progress made by cultivators in the production of flowers, fruits and vegetables proper to' the season. And the occasion was not neglected, for from the time the doors were thrown open until late last evening the building was thronged. The scene throughout was a most animated one. Parallel tables on either side of the hall were laden with magnificent blossoming plants, shrubs, collection of exquisite cut flowers and bouquets. To the right aud left of theae again were benches piled with vegetables and fruit. The former were of dimensions, form and quality rarely excelled. On the stage — the front of which was tastefully decorated with foliage, and a device (beautifully wrought by Mr Stewart) in flowers, representing a plough with the motto, "Labor omnia vincit" — were displayed the dairy products and cereals. The latter were but poorly represented — farmers being in fact too thoroughly occupied at this season in actual harvest operations to spare time for the preparation of exhibits. Bevies of holiday-makers, ladies and children promenaded {he avenues, while first-class music lent its aid to the charm of the scene. Taken altogether, the show was successful beyond the most sanguine expectation. Owing to some unforseen delays in* the early part of the day, the Judges' awards were not made until somewhat later-than intended. Our reporter was consequently unable to obtain as complete a list of prizeholders as we could have wished. With this explanation we give the following list: — Section I. — Pot Plants.
