Kumerotti complainta are made on the arrival of every steamer and vessel at the high fares charged by the Railway Department. Numbers of passengers are lost through this, and surely the Government, with the fact before them, will at once reduce the charge, and thus offer an inducement to passing passengers to travel by the line during the interval of their stay in the port. The universal opinion appears to be that os for a single ticket, and 7s 6d return, would meet the interests of all concerned. It will also be found advisable to allow captains of vessels in the port to travel free by the railway, and not charge them full fares as is done by the present arrangement. By allowing captains to travel free many more tickets are disposed of to his passengers, and thus a passenger trade is created. If the G-overnment are desirous to make the railway a success they should turn their immediate attention to these matters, and remedy them, The barque Bengal, from' this port for Newcastle, N.S.W., arrived there on the 2nd inst., and the ship Hydra, from hencs to Port Stephen, N.S.W., was spoken 25 miles off that port on 2nd instant.
