(From the " Herald," Feb. 12.)

Adelaide, 11th February. The branch mail steamer Alexandria, with the December mails on board, arrived at Grlenelg at 7 p.m. last night. A bush fire having destroyed a quarter of a mile of the telegraph line between Mount Gambier and Portland, communication was interrupted until 9 30 a.m. to-day. The mail news began to be telegraphed shortly afterwards, but only one wire could be used.
