MEXICO.
General Sedgwick, with a force of United States troops, took possession of Matamoras on the 24th uit. The reception of this news caused quite a stir in Washington, and since then General Sedgwick has been relieved of his command, it being declared that he acted contrary to orders. - Maximilian, at last accounts, still remained at Orizaba. It is stated that he is preparing a vindication of his aefcion in leaving the city of Mexico, and that he will shortly publish it; The Imperialists are evacuating all their northern outposts, and it is thought that Mazatlan and San Luis de Potosi will soon be rid of their presence. A report was in circulation that Maximilian had agreed to abdicate, if permitted to do so by Marshal .Bazaine, in favor of a triumvirate, composed of Marquez, Miramon, and Mann, and appeal to the vote of the people for a new government. Stilllater advices announce that General Sherman and Minister Campbell have arrived in Vera Cruz, and were receiving every courtesy and respect from the Mexican people' and every kindness and attention from the French authorities. It was reported that the Emperor Maximilian's baggage had been shipped to Austria, and that the French troops were being concetrated at one point, preparatory to taking their final departure from the country.
