COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Times Opfict?, Saturday Evening. ""We take the foliowinff commercial from the Dvily Times, 31st December : — Business operations during the past "week have been curtailed, both by the occurrence of the holidays, and by the general disposition which prevails among the buyers to throw over transaction* as much ns possible into the new year. There has, however, been a fair demand for upcountry and export requirements, and trade promises to be actively resumed a<W the next three or four days have passed. The home iutelligence, via Panama, has scarcely had any effect upon market values ; but the shipments advised beini; light, it is not improbable that in one or two staples some improvements may be shortly witnessed. In the English grain market it is noticeable that prices for barley and wheats are particularly high— the latter, of South Australian growth, being reported as worth 9s. It is probable that shipments of grain which have not for a number of years been made from this part of the world to Britain, will again take place. The cost of malt liqnors has been affected by the consequent increase 1 value of malt. The Oamaru Times of Friday reports : " "Wool is doily arriving in quantities ; but we learn that the loads this year are light, owing to the state of the roads in the interior, especially between the Barren Flat and Otekaike. Becent floods have BO changed the river beds that draying over them requires the utmost care and very light loads. This will considerably, delay the delivery of wool here, and perhaps the sailing of the wool vessels."
