Jan 2, 5 p.m. — Lord Ashley, s.s., for Napier. Jan 3, 5 p.m. — Wellington, s.s., for South. Jan 3, 5 p.m. — Rangitira, s.s., for Wangantii.
.#. The schooner Swordfish arrived in the bay yesterday from Invercargill, after a very fair passage of seven days to the straits. Since then she has heen detained hy strong north■westerly and westerly winds. On the first part of the passage she experienced strong S. and S.W. breezes. On Thursday last-she was in company •with the barque Contest, of Liverpool, bound to the Westward, and slbo -with the schooner Stranger (supposed). Captain Napper brings a cargo of New Zealand timber, white and red pine, the latter being considerably more like cedar than pine. Both descriptions of timber have a beautiful grain, and are capable of taking a high polish. The timber is also said to be impervious to vermin. —Argus 18th Dec.
