RIVERTON.
(from otjb own correspondent.) The Christmas season was denoted in this township with great demonstrations. The hotels presented a splendid appearance with their decorations of native evergreens and flags of all natives. The storekeepers wishing not to be behind hand made a first-class show of Christmas eatables, not forgetting oranges and apples, which made their appearance in the window of Mr Crisp. The Rivertonians determining not to be behind in their amusements came out in full holiday attire, on Boxing Day; and, with their up-conntry friends, who came in numbers, mad« a fine show at a picnic, which was given by the Committee of the M. U. I. O. O. F. for the benefit of the "Widows and Orphnns fund, on the grounds of his Honor ( J. P. Taylor, Esq.,) kindly lent for the occasion. The sports consisted of foot ball, running, jumping, Aunt Sally, quoits, dancing and cricketing by the members of the Riverton Cricket Club, and all descriptions of old country games. In the morning the volunteers turned out in good numbers for shooting at the butts, and the evening closed with manya jovial meeting. On Monday next the Riverton Cricket Club are going to play a match with the Gummy's Bush Cricket Club, on the last named club's grounds ; wickets to be pitched at 11 o'clock a.m. It is to be hoped that they will be favored with fine weather for their sport.
