if THE GREEK SHEPHERDESS. j !
Bx Elza Win-sou. 'Tis spring with its beauty so fresh and so green, The mountains of beautiful Greece is the scene ; By a stream a young shepherdess rests all alone, While her flock of wiiite sheep o'er the velvet gi'ass roam. The waters glide rippling along at her feet, In soft gushing murmurs so gentle and sweet; The flowers of the yalley perfume the still air, And a sunbeam plays brightly around her dark hair. Her eye like a beautiful star of the night, Is lustrously flashing and beauteously bright; Her cheek like the blushing wild rose of the vale, Her iorm like the lily, so slender and frail. Ah! beautiful shepherdess, bud of the spring, May sorrow ne'er eyer thy h«ppy heart wring, Nor crush thy young soul with her burden of care, Xov mark thy fair brow with the lines of despair. — «
