PORT OF WELLINGTON.
BAILED. Deo 4, 4 p.m. — Claud Hamilton, s.s., for Nelson. — ♦ The schooner Tambo has been -wrecked at HoIritika. She went ;6n shore on the evenin? of the 12th inst , whilst in tow of the Challenge, which vessel also grounded, but came off again shortly afterwards. Th 6 crew remained by the stranded craft until midnight, when the fearful freshet discharged by the river washed away the bank on which 6he was lying, and being caught by the current, away went the Tambo into the surf dragging the anchor after her. She kept afloat for six hours, dragging slowly to the southward, m til at last the windlasss was torn out of the bitts, and the vessel went ashore on the South Spit. Immediately afterwards her masts went overboard, and she commenced breaking up. The Tambu was owned by Messrs Spenee Brothers, and had for srme m< nths past been pnpaged in the roal trade between Holntila and Greymouth. At the 'ime «f her mishap she was deeply lade r wit'« coal, which has all been lost. She was uninsured.
