During the last few days a number of timber carriages have been seen passing through Deestreet towards the jetty. Upon enquiry, we learn that the Sword Fish now loading at the jetty, is to take a cargo of Southland tim ber to Victoria, as an experiment. Messrs M'Pherson k Co. are deserving of great credit for thua testing the Victorian market. There can be no doubt that New Zealand oan supply soft wood of a superior description to any obtainable in Victoria, and a large trade may be done. It ia therefore most important that this experimental ehipment should be carefully selected.
