Intelligence -was received by the Commissioner of Police last evening, of the •wreck of the wreck of the schooner James Dal' > nt W: ikawa. and of a consequent loss of life. The news was comimirr's/ed on Tuesday, to Sergeant Bullen, stationed at Waipawi, by a leiter signed by o Maori, but evidently not written by him. Th*letter is dated " Popotunoa, October 2nd," an : skater) that the Maori had been despatched from Waikana to inform the police of the wreck, which is sai.i to have occurred " last week." It is added fhnt o«e dead body had be^n fouud, and that aU <he cargo had been wa-*h d ashore. Sergeant Hullen had gone to Waikawa, and he has instructed Constable Bailey, from Kaitan««v a, aso to proceed there. Those interested in 4 • schooner a 1 d her cargo should afc once com m ninate with the Commissioner of Police. The James Dalv was a very old vessel. She sailed from Dunedin recently, on the trip which has ended in her destruction, and a loss of some of her crew. — Daily Times, sth October
