Oct. 8, 10.30 a.m. — Star of the Evening, from Wellington. PORT CHALMERS. SAILED. Oct. B— Ely Whitney, for Newcastle. ♦ The whaling brig Amherst arrived on Friday last from Stewart's Island. It wiU be recoUected that this vessel was wrecked some time since, or, in other words, sprung a leak at sea, and was run ashore at Port William, and aUowed to fiU with "water. The wreck was soon after sold at InvercargiU, when Mr M'Michel and Mr Q-ilroy, jun. (the late captain's son), became the purchasers. They started immediately for the wreck, with a crew, and, with a smaU addition to the ship's pumps, soon succeeded in getting her afloat. It is the owners' intention to give her a thorough overhaul, and then to saU for the Auckland Islands, and try their luck for seal oU.
