OFFICIAL REPORTS.

The following report has been placed at our disposal by the Chief Commissioner of Police, T. K. Weldon Esq. Orepuki Police Station, 19th September, 1866. Sergeant Morton reports that there are two hundred and fifty miners on the Orepuki diggings ; they all seem satisfied with their earnings, the lowest wages which they make is three pounds a man per week. There are three or four claims on the beach, which pay from ten to fourteen pounds per week per man when they get a full week's work ; and there is a few claims in the bush paying good wages, and as the miners on the beach work out their claims they go to the bush. The yield of gold is about three hundred ounces a week, when the weather is good and low tides. Baxter and party found a good seam of coal in the bush, and have gone to Invercargill with a sample of it ; the coal is about five miles from the Orepuki township. E. Mobton,. Sergeant. T. K.
