THE MOTHER'S LAMENT.

By EiZA WrLisoir. Thou art gone and for eyer, no more in the | glade Shall thou wander at ere in the leafy green shade, Nor call the pink rose and the violets so blue, With their petals all bathed in the pearly bright dew. Thou art gone, and for ever, my beautiful child, Cold death stayed thy footsteps so free and so wild, JKTo more in thy tresses, bright flowers shall I twine, Nor see thy bright eyes gazing fondly on mine. Thou art gone, and for ever, and where thou hast trod, Thy bright form is slumbering 'neath the green sod, And over the hillside, and down by the stream, Thy presence hath fled like a shadowy dream. Thou art gone, and my heart is sad stricken and lone, For I miss thy light footstep, thy soft winning tone, But teach me, Oh, Lord, all my sorrows to bear, And trust in thy merciful goodness and care.
